De Vrijwillige Hulpdienst Eindhoven is an independent foundation which organizes voluntary help for almost fifty years. Over 500 volunteers (called Maatjes, which is Dutch for buddy) offer support to community-dwelling care recipients in the field of wellbeing and care. The help offered is as much as possible aimed at restoring strength and the self-sufficiency of the care recipients. At the VHE there are different Maatjesprojects.

Volunteers are central to the VHE. After an introductory meeting the volunteers are well prepared for their work through a training program. Once deployed the volunteers are guided by professional coordinators and there are intervision and training meetings. The VHE finds it very important the volunteers do their job well and enjoy it. Volunteers receive an expense allowance.
